About Me

Hey, I’m Abby. In a lot of ways, I’m typical. I’m a middle-aged, middle-class mom of 2. Most days, I’m keenly focused on my husband, our family, our home, and the health of those around me.

Of course, no human being is defined by a list of what occupies them. Like all humans, I have unique interests. And, unique responses to the world around me.

My belief in individuality has helped me navigate a lot in my breast cancer journey. The benchmarks and timelines linked to various diagnoses and recovery can be vast. Medical literature, Google searches, podcasts, books … they all give ranges. What is life supposed to look like now?

It’s all vague because it’s all unique. We’re all unique.

My Stage Zero, for example, resulted in a bilateral mastectomy. That means they took both boobs. Nipples & tissue. There was a moment after hearing “Stage 0” that I actually thought, “Oh. OK. No big deal.” But what I’ve learned is that Breast Cancer is never nothing.

This site is a way for me to explore my stage zero breast cancer. My diagnosis, treatment, recovery, silver linings, and what I’ve learned along the way. I know this will help me — and if you’re reading — maybe it will help you too.

Please stay, comment, and connect. There is a lot of solitude in recovery – company, welcomed.
